The international organisation Everything Is Possible has already salvaged enough good quality camping equipment at Beacons Festival (Skipton) to cover half of Millenium Square.

Every year thousands of pieces of camping equipment are left behind by festival goers and are collected by the organisation at Leeds Festival. Last weekend, for the first time, they also helped Beacons Festival to keep the festival green. The organisation is joined by 35 young people from Estonia, France, Italy and Poland – all passionate about recycling. They are all ready for a second big salvage after this weekend’s Leeds Festival – where they hope to add to their collection.

Clair Brown, co-founder of Everything Is Possible says:

“This first salvage at Beacons Festival has been a big success. At the end there were only 10 broken tents left. And all camping gear benefits organisations that really need it for their activities’’

But be reassured: the organisation has no intention to transform the Millenium Square into a big campsite. In fact all tents, sleeping bags, mats and chairs have already been donated to organisations from all around Yorkshire and even Lancashire (Skipton, Bradford, Halifax, Keighley, Harrogate, Leeds, Ilkley, Manchester, York, Southport, Huddersfield and many other cities). Some are working with Scouts, some with the homeless, some with refugees and others with children (including lots of Scout organisations).

Ash Alom, from YnspYre Youth (Keighley) says:

‘’Our organisation will not have to struggle any more with funding to rent camping equipment. Having our own camping equipment, we will now be able to organise activities for young people, especially those with fewer opportunities, around our area.’’

Everything Is Possible is hoping now to salvage enough camping gear to cover the entire Millenium Square or even the Leeds football stadium Elland Road.

This project is supported by the British Council, the European Commission, Beacons Festival and Festival Republic.
